The pawn had always known its place.
Until it didn’t.
The Runaway Pawn is a short work of literary fiction. It is not long. It was not meant to be.
It is meant to be read slowly. Returned to. Interpreted differently depending on where you are in your life when you encounter it.
What the pawn carries, what it leaves behind, what it finds at the end of its journey — these are left for the reader to decide.
The story ends in a quiet chamber.
At its center, a manuscript preserved inside a crystal case.
No dust. No decay.
No guards. No locks. No spectacle.
Just stillness.
The unanswered questions are part of the work.
