The KUA Principles.

The KUA Manifesto declares what we believe. The KUA Framework describes how KUA conceptualizes development. The KUA Principles define the standards we use to make decisions, design systems, evaluate programs, and govern our own conduct.

These principles provide a basis for evaluating KUA's choices, institutions, and work.

I

KUA designs for application, not exposure.

KUA does not distribute information and stop. The test for any program, tool, or publication is not whether it contains useful ideas — it is whether it is structured to help people apply them. Acquiring knowledge creates a condition; translating knowledge into judgment and behavior is a different and harder task. Every initiative KUA develops should be evaluated against both: does it inform, and does it help people do something with what they now know?

II

Stewardship is how KUA understands responsibility.

Whatever has been entrusted to KUA — resources, relationships, influence, the trust of the people we serve — is a responsibility to carry with care, not something to exploit for institutional self-interest. Leadership, financial governance, and the management of partnerships are all expressions of this. KUA will not treat those it serves as means to organizational ends. What has been entrusted to KUA should be carried with the same seriousness it asks of the people it works with.

III

KUA is governed by the standards it teaches.

The principles and frameworks KUA teaches are not recommendations for others — they apply to KUA's own conduct. How KUA operates, whom it partners with, how it manages its finances, how it represents its work publicly, and how it makes organizational decisions should be consistent with what it teaches. KUA's credibility depends in part on whether its institutional behavior remains consistent with the standards it teaches.

IV

Alignment governs expansion.

KUA does not pursue growth, visibility, revenue, partnerships, or apparent excellence at the expense of alignment with its mission and principles. When an opportunity — however attractive — would require KUA to compromise what it stands for or what it has committed to the people it serves, that is reason to decline it. This applies to organizational scale, new programs, institutional partnerships, public positioning, and funding decisions alike.

V

The people KUA serves are agents, not recipients.

KUA does not treat those it serves as passive beneficiaries of expertise. The people KUA works with bring their own knowledge, experience, judgment, and capacity. Programs and tools should preserve and strengthen that agency — supporting informed participation and building capability that belongs to the individual, not to KUA. The relationship between KUA and the people it serves should preserve agency and, where appropriate, strengthen their capacity for greater autonomy over time.

VI

Systems should elevate people, not replace them.

KUA builds technology and systems to strengthen human capacity, not to automate it away. A system that strengthens a person's ability to think, decide, create, or act can reflect this principle. A system that unnecessarily displaces human judgment, responsibility, or agency requires scrutiny. This standard applies to every tool, platform, and AI-assisted program KUA develops.

VII

KUA distinguishes between what it intends and what it produces.

KUA designs its programs and tools to improve conditions, strengthen capabilities, and increase the likelihood of better outcomes. It does not claim that its systems guarantee transformation, success, or specific results. Human development is shaped by individual choices, circumstances, environment, and factors outside any program's control. KUA measures what it reasonably can, revises what the evidence suggests isn't working, and is honest about what remains uncertain.

VIII

KUA evaluates success beyond organizational growth.

KUA does not define success solely by revenue, reach, enrollment, downloads, or organizational growth. We also examine whether our work builds the capacity of the people we serve — and whether it contributes to the conditions for flourishing in the families, communities, and institutions around them. Progress visible only in KUA's own growth is not sufficient evidence of impact.

These principles are standards KUA uses to evaluate its decisions, systems, partnerships, and conduct. We expect to be accountable to them and willing to correct course when our practice falls short.
